چکیده
A range of phenomena in the subsurface is characterised by interplay between coupled thermal, hydraulic and mechanical processes deforming structures such as fractures. Modelling dynamics can provide valuable phenomenological understanding, but requires models which faithfully represent involved; these models, therefore are themselves highly complex. This paper presents a mixed-dimensional thermo-hydro-mechanical model designed to capture process-structure using discrete-fracture-matrix framework. It incorporates tightly based on laws for momentum, mass entropy subdomains representing matrix lower-dimensional fractures fracture intersections. The deformation explicitly represented modelled contact mechanics relations Coulomb friction law, with particular attention coupling dilation governing equations both matrix. discretised multi-point finite volumes balance semismooth Newton scheme conditions implemented open source simulation toolbox PorePy. Finally, studies demonstrate model's convergence, investigate effects, explore different show an application 3d geothermal pressure stimulation long-term cooling scenario.

Coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical model for porous materials under frost action: theory and implementation
This paper introduces the development and implementation of a multiphysical model to simulate the coupled hydro-thermo-mechanical processes in freezing unsaturated porous materials. The model couples the Fourier’s law for heat transfer, the generalized Richards’ equation for fluid transfer in unsaturated media, and the mechanical constitutive relationship. Coupling parameters were defined to tr...
متن کاملThermo- and hydro-mechanical processes along faults during rapid slip
Field observations of maturely slipped faults show a generally broad zone of damage by cracking and granulation. Nevertheless, large shear deformation, and therefore heat generation, in individual earthquakes takes place with extreme localization to a zone <1–5 mm wide within a finely granulated fault core. Relevant fault weakening processes during large crustal events are therefore likely to b...

متن کاملCoupled thermo-hydro-mechanical processes in fault zones during rapid slip
The physical processes which occur during an earthquake exhibit several coupled phenomena as large variations of stress, pore pressure and temperature take place in the slip zone. Thermo-poro-mechanical couplings due to shear heating can be associated to phase transition such as vaporization of the pore fluid, melting of fault gouge and to chemical effects such as dehydration of minerals or dec...
متن کاملHydro-mechanical coupling in damaged porous media containing isolated cracks or/and vugs: model and computations
In this paper we present the development of the macroscopic model describing the hydro-mechanical coupling of damaged porous media containing cracks or/and vugs, by using the asymptotic expansion method. The analysis starts at the mesoscopic scale at which we assume a generic microstructure and the validity of the Biot model in the micro-porous domain saturated by a fluid. In the crack/vug doma...
